Last night, [profile] scribefigaro and I went to see The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

It was perfect.

If anyone has watched The X-Files and enjoyed any part of it, go see this movie!

I was a hardcore fan from seasons 1-8.  I still look back fondly on any time I spent watching the show or religiously going online and checking out (and adding to) the message boards for the show.  I was a Mulder/Scully shipper.

So, basically, this movie was written for me.  I enjoyed every minute of it.  I actually started squeeing at the end.  It had practically no mythology (thank goodness, because it's been seven years since I've pored over the little clues left in the mytharc episodes), yet it made mention of all of the main mythology plot points.  This movie was a straightforward Monster of the Week episode that hit every note right.  The movie had quite a few in-jokes, from within the show and from within the fandom.

I think that someone not well versed in the X-Files universe would still like the movie, but I doubt that they'd enjoy it as much as the die hard fans would.  All I can say is that I geeked out last night in a major way.  It was like being drugged with a substance that causes perfect happiness and nostalgia.  It was like meeting up with two great friends that I haven't seen in forever.  It reminded me of how much I missed them and how much they've impacted me and meant to me.  I'd not be the same person if the X-Files wasn't ever made.

And really, it took an entire genre of entertainment (anime) to fill the void left when I stopped watching the X-Files.
