God I'm so tired.

Last day of classes. yay.

'Tis the season and I just have to get this off of my chest.

I really don't like Christmas and all of December is pretty much the worst.  I hate shopping, crowds, (most) holiday music, and travel.  And grading, but at least I get paid to do that.

I've come to realize that since 1992, there have only been four Christmases (when I was in college) where I didn't travel more than 800 miles to be with family.  Generally I travel anywhere between 12 and 20 hours (one way) to see family during Christmas.  This is extremely stressful and I DO IT EVERY YEAR!  This year is no exception. (Yes, I'm thankful for loving family who wants to see me during Christmas, but traveling during this time of the year is awful.)

This truly makes me dread Christmas every year.  I seriously have almost never looked forward to it in the last 20 years.

I try not to be a Grinch and rain on everyone's Christmas parade, but dear God, I really, really, really hate Christmas.

I had to get that off my chest.  I'll be happier about Christmas when I've done more grading and gotten other shit taken care of.

Carry on.

We're officially back from my parents' house, so I might actually have time to Internet.  Then again, I do have to start preparing for the new semester.  Stupid work.

Anyway, I did see this over the break and thought I'd share for those who haven't seen it.  It's a song from the upcoming Hunger Games movie.  It's sung by Taylor Swift and features The Civil Wars.  I was dubious about it (I'm not the biggest Swift fan), but I think it's completely lovely.

Holidays!

Hey!

I'm sorry that I haven't been keeping up with my f-list these past few days.  We've been traveling (22 hours by car) to get to my parents' for the holidays.  Then there's been the shopping (guh) and the hanging out with family.  Therefore, computer time has been necessarily limited.

But let me wish a very happy holidays and a merry Christmas to everyone who stumbles by!  I hope everything is going well for your holiday season!

Love to all of you and to your loved ones.

Puppy post

I've been thinking about writing an angsty post, but the kitty post by [livejournal.com profile] psyco_chick32 has made me want to relate my most recent puppy story.

As most of you know, we have two dogs.  A larger, older (just turned 10!) black Lab and a two-year-old mutt of a puppy who is quite small (10 pounds).  Our little guy is just full of romping, playing, and cuteness while the big guy is regal and dignified.

Well, in our house, the dogs have couch privileges.  We have two couches, a large sofa and a smaller love seat.  The big dog has a favorite spot on the big sofa, on the right corner cushion.  The little guy sits on laps, pillows, the back rests, anywhere he wants that suits his desires at the time.

At night, though, the big guy usually sleeps in his spot on the sofa and the little guy snuggles with us on the bed.

Well, last night, I got up at 4:30 to use the bathroom and notice that the puppy didn't come to bed with us.  I went looking for him.  I found him.  He had taken the big guy's spot on the couch.  He was stubbornly refusing to budge and the big guy was glaring at him, squeezed onto the love seat.  The puppy, who actually prefers nighttime snuggles on the bed, was only on the couch to spite the larger dog!  He only wanted it because the other dog wanted it.

Bad dog!

So I scooped up the little guy and brought him to the bedroom.  When I woke up, the big guy was back in his place on the couch.

I have the cutest dogs ever.
