Another wasted weekend
Jul. 10th, 2005 07:53 pmI managed to get exactly zero work done this weekend. I napped, I watched TV, I surfed the net, I read.
I also dropped $30 at Borders yesterday. I think I showed amazing restraint. Normally I come out $100 lighter and about 6 or 7 books heavier each time I leave. But I had a coupon. And I only wanted 2 books (well, wanted them enough to spend my hard-earned money on them) and one DVD (Kill Bill). Now, I've watched the movie twice and am almost half-way through the David Sedaris book (my 4th or 5th of his I've read: Barrel Fever. Not my favorite of his. Not yet, anyway).
I did manage to not hurt myself with over imbibing intoxicating substances. I never got the call for this weekend (phew). So it was a nice, quiet, relaxing weekend. And I managed to watch a lot of anime. I've just about OD'ed on Full Metal Panic. It's just too cute and funny. I also found a new one called Elfen Lied or something like that. It's pretty bad. Most amime carries some kind of misogynistic undertones, a lot of whore/Madonna dynamics within the characterization of women. This particular anime wasn't so subtle. The nudity was gratuitous in the beginning. But it was hilarious near the end (I don't know if I was supposed to find it as funny as I did). But I even think the comic relief nudity was done at the expense of the main character. I don't mind nudity, I just think that it should serve some purpose more than fanboys getting off on the ridiculous combination of sex and violence as can be found in most anime. But I suppose I'm being hypocritical. I watched the darn thing myself. And will probably watch another episode to see if it changes at all.
This is what happens when I don't do my work like a good girl. I start waxing theoretical about the gender roles of popular culture as can be found in the TV I watch. I should just stick to what I know and what's actually paying all of my outrageous cable bills.
