I called the police. Again.
Nov. 29th, 2006 04:29 pmLast night I was walking my dog pretty late. I noticed a man walking behind me. I thought, "Meh. I'll keep my awareness up."
As the man goes to pass me, he does a double-take at me. Then he asks if I have a lighter. I say no. He then asks if I have cigarettes. I say no. I guess he found me friendly enough so he decided he wanted to follow me.
For two blocks.
He kept asking me questions about where I lived, where I was going, what I did, etc. I was really cold to him, but didn't tell him to go fuck himself. When the dog would stop to sniff, I would stop, and the strange man would stop, too.
Me: You don't have to wait.
Him: I don't mind.
Me: (internally: GAH! Take the fucking HINT!)
I started freaking out a little, but it was a warm night, so there were a lot of people around so if he was going to try to do anything, there would be a lot of witnesses.
We got to a corner and he asked me which way I was heading.
Me: I... don't... know.
Him: I'm going this way.
Me: I'm going... the opposite way.
So I cross the street away from where he went and started going back to my apartment. I see him ahead (on the other side of the street) TURN AROUND and start walking back to where I had been. Then he turned down the (very dark) side street I was about to turn down. So I decided to take well-let streets back home. I saw another dog walker I'm familiar with and caught up with her and her dog and walked back with them. I was telling her all about my experience when I see the guy again! He was following another young woman who was walking her dog. She even crossed the street between the cars to get away and he followed her! So the other woman and I watched to make sure everything went okay. It did, but I rushed home and called the cops. It was just too weird and freaky. :(

I think I may start carrying my pepper spray. I know it's not legal, but it may be worth the fine. Now I'm all jumpy about walking my dog in the dark (which sucks because it gets dark at 4:30).
I love the city, but it scared the hell out of me last night.
