Laundry Drama

starzkiLet me set up the background: I usually do my laundry on Thursday mornings. Every week, I plan to work from home so that I might be able to get chores and other things around the house done so that I don't regress into complete savagery and filth. I pick Thursdays to do this. I like to get my laundry done right away, usually putting the wash in as I walk the dog and dry my clothes as I have breakfast. This is the most time-effective way to do the laundry (trust me, I'm a nerd and I've done this several ways in order to find the best).
Anyway, there is a man in my building who also likes to do his laundry on Thursday mornings. He is an older, somewhat weird, grumpy gentleman who does not exchange greetings if he can help it. No biggie, right? Well, our building has four washers and four driers and he manages to foul up four loads worth of laundry every week. So if he gets there before I do, I have to wait an hour for my turn. If he's first, he has to wait an hour on one of his loads.
I've discovered that he works nights and usually doesn't get home until nearly 9AM. I can get my laundry in by 8:30AM. So I usually win.
He hates this. I can feel the enmity just seething out from his pores when I see him in the laundry room on Thursday mornings. (He babysits his laundry.)
But this morning, weird stuff was happening. I put in my laundry at 8:35 like most weeks. I saw him take his laundry down about 9:10. My wash was probably ready at 9:15, but I got distracted and didn't get down to the laundry room until 9:20. As I walk into the room, I see Mr. Grumpypants doing something with my laundry basket (which I left on top of the washer). He saw me, dropped the laundry basket and jumped a mile. Then he tried to play it cool and was all, "Good morning, how are you today?" This is more than he's ever said to me in the entire 4 years I've lived in this building. Now, just what was he going to do with my laundry basket (and/or laundry)?
