So I played yesterday.
I am beyond sore today. :(
I woke up before 7AM to a downpour of rain (which sucks) and very cool weather. I did not want to play. I got myself on public transportation and made my way out to the field. I got lost (in not the nicest neighborhood). I did know the general direction of the field, so I just made my way there, getting there eventually. I know a couple of players on the team, but most of them are new to me, so it's less like hanging out with friends and playing than it is being like the new kid in class. My heart just wasn't completely in it.
I was not ready to play soccer. I've been running all summer. I lost weight and got some nice lean runners' muscles in my legs.
Runners' muscles will not cut it in soccer.
When I went up against a 200 pound guy for a header, I had no chance of winning. The whole time I was playing, I just felt so weak because I don't have my soccer muscles. And with the rain and turf field (which is awesome beyond words, but it takes some getting used to), I was a little off and I hate that.
I played left defense and the guy who played left midfield above me and I did not play well together. Part of it was that I kept getting mowed down every time I went up against that huge guy, so he'd have to cover for me, but a lot of it was because he just thought "Girl = Not Good at Soccer." I had to tell him to quit playing my position. I think he took some offense. We'll work it out, eventually. I hope.
Funny moment: As a few of my soccer friends showed up, despite the downpour:
Friend: Starzki! :D
Me: Hey! :D
Friend: Just the way I like to see you...
Me: ??? (Thinking, "On the soccer field? Okay.")
Friend: ...In a wet t-shirt.
Me: Heh. Jackass.
Maybe when I get used to playing, I'll be more enthusiastic about it.
And we lost yesterday, too. :(
