Not one but two
complete strangers helped me with my cumbersome, huge suitcase on the
way home from the airport yesterday. I'm so impressed. The
first time I needed help, I was sitting there trying to figure out how
to get my awkward duffel/rolly suitcase that weighed 40 pounds
(minimum) through an itty-bitty, teeny-tiny turnstile while also
maneuvering a stuffed backpack, another duffel, a pillow, and myself
through it at the same time. Without my asking, a nice man just
hefted the stupid thing above the turnstile for me. How nice!
Then, not five minutes later, another complete stranger, again without
my asking (or really even needing the help this time), picked up the
suitcase onto the bus for me. Sweet!
Had I not decided that I'm too poor for the $30 cab ride and opted for public transportation, I would never have known such nice people lived in my city. Then, when I came home to my apartment and found it wasn't robbed (which I always expect after long vacations), I was so happy.
Now, because the only edible things in the apartment are a can of black beans, a packet of tuna fish, and half of a jar of peanut butter, I must go grocery shopping. I can get creative when it comes to cooking what's available, but... *shudder*
