What I learned on vacation:

starzkiThings I learned on vacation:
1) The trip down:
a) I missed my calling as a long-haul trucker.
b) The book, "Everything is Illuminated" was brilliant. Fantastic. Made me think way too much. And cry.
c) Every time I saw the Missouri gas station chain, "Kum & Go," I would blush profusely and hope the grandma didn't see it.
d) Grandma needs great grandchildren in the worst way. (Sadly, she will not be getting them from me.)
2) There:
a) I have the coolest parents ever.
b) It is less painful to swallow my tongue than to get into a heated conversation with the grandma about race relations in the US.
c) Puppy is definitely a water dog. I should install a pool in my studio apartment.
d) "The Wizard of Oz" is right: A person can turn into a puddle.
e) I was so right to leave the South.
f) Do not trust an old TV/VCR to record my anime, no matter what.
g) Shrimp is yummy, but a person can come to crave good sushi.
h) My normally high self-esteem drops right back down to high school level when faced with people I knew in high school.
i) I miss work when I don't go to work.
j) Insomnia will follow me anywhere.
k) I'm ready for winter.
l) I need a haircut.
m) IMing is fun but I suddenly become shy and realize I'm the most boring person to ever live.
n) Fanfiction is not the same when read at home. It's more clandestine, which is cool. But it also seems more immature.
o) I don't trust my sister's boyfriend further than I can hurl a piano.
3) The trip back up:
a) The book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time" is wonderful. And math-y. Yay!
b) I have too many control issues to let Grandma drive at night. Although I did scream out loud only one time (because we were about to side-swipe someone, but whatever).
c) Supreme exhaustion will drive away insomnia.
d) Nine days is too short a visit if 36 of those hours is driving.
e) Things go all to hell with my cable if I'm not there to call my cable company and complain. What would they do without me? (joke)
4) I wouldn't do anything other than what I'm doing.
