Months ago, my mom got an audiobook to take with her on the drive to visit my brother 5 hours from her house. She got Marley and Me, by John Grogan, about the "world's worst dog." She called me and said that since I also have a Labrador Retriever, that I should read it.
Me: It's a book about a dog?
Mom: Yeah. It's great!
Me: Does the dog die in the end?
Mom: Umm...
Anyway, I kindly refused to read it. I knew I'd be upset at the end, no matter how fitting and/or courageous it was. Since talking to my mom, several people have asked me if I'd read it or recommended it to me because of my dog. Finally last week, a friend of mine from work shoved the book in my hands and said, "You'll love it!"
It was very good. I started it yesterday and finished it today. But I have given myself a headache from crying so hard at the end. :(
I still can't tell if it was worth it.
In other news, one of my best friends had her baby. NINE DAYS AGO!! (She wasn't due until the 27th, so I had called just to see how she was taking being so extremely pregnant.) When she told me the date, I said, "NO! What?!" Then she said, "You didn't get the email?" Obviously not! I'd have called or sent something before now! But I can see that she's been busy. Still: Ouch.
