NOTES:
It's late here, but I'll share my thoughts on this chapter briefly.
There are a lot of spoilers for the series and a bit of stuff I tried to cleverly add in. Specifically, I put Kaname on birth control. Mainly, I didn't want to write about them worrying about condoms or finding a way to have Kaname on the pill for the later chapters. I figured it might not be totally out of reach to have Kaname's kidnappers offer her birth control. As I wrote, when she was under Sophia's control, she nearly did give in and sleep with Leonard. However, the Kaname that was deep down was able to wrest control of herself away just enough to stop it.
So given the possibility that two beautiful teenagers might actually, you know, go at it, Amalgam might have just gone ahead and given Kaname a no-muss, no-fuss birth control option.
Another thing I wanted to confront was the awful way that Sousuke "greeted" Kaname on their reunion. He was angry at Sophia/Kaname and he definitely let it show. And the language he used at her is actually what snapped Kaname back into control at the end. There was just no way she would endure that kind of talk from Sousuke, which I'm sure he anticipated and used to his benefit. It was terrible, as a shipper, to read what he said (calling her a bitch, for example) when they were finally reunited after so much time apart. But it wasn't really Kaname he was talking to. Or it was, but he did it so that Kaname would fight him and fight for him.
And finally, I wanted a nearly naked scene where Sousuke really looks at Kaname. His eyes are so intense and his demeanor so serious that I could imagine Kaname just combusting under his scrutiny. It's just that sexy. I'm ratcheting up the sexiness to actually earn my M rating on ff.net.
Hmm. I think that's all I have the energy to write tonight. Happy reading!

Date: 2012-09-29 06:33 pm (UTC)Confession: I've only read one of the FMP light novels.
What I did was find the anime episodes. They are all available on hulu. Start with just Full Metal Panic! if you like, then is season 1.5, the Fumoffu episodes. Then, the last season of the anime FMP: The Second Raid.
The first season is fun, quirky, and serious. Kind of "all of the above" for the series. The Fumoffu eps are the comedy "fish out of water" episodes that are strange, but hilarious. The Second Raid is fully serious.
The different takes on Sousuke fitting into Japanese life/battling with his mecha makes it seem like there are a bunch of different canons to the series, but it's still all the same and it makes sense when you watch it.
If you make it through that and still want more (and the light novels have been hard for me to find), there is the manga of the novels available on mangafox called Full Metal Panic! Sigma. It's still in progress, but you get the general take on what happens after The Second Raid through the last novel (which I have bookmarked and can give you if you want it later).
Okay, can you tell that I'm excited that your interested!? I do hope you like it.

Yeah, when I looked on Wikipedia, I couldn't figure out if the light novels or the manga were the "core" canon series. It seemed to lean more towards the novels, but most of them haven't been translated into English and/or released? Or something. But then I realized, "Oh, wait, she's married to Scribe, doesn't he translate things Just Because?" and thought maybe you just had access to the original material through him....
I read through the character summaries/arcs and things started to sound familiar, LOL, but I still wasn't sure where all of the different series fit in - so thanks!! I'm excited that the anime is available on Hulu. I looked in my library's catalog and the DVDs were at a different branch, so this will be much easier :D
The Fumoffu eps are the comedy "fish out of water" episodes that are strange, but hilarious.
Yeah, something about Sousuke making armor from teddy bears that only said variations of "fu" and "mo"? LOL IDEK, but that sounded about right for anime :P

Hehe, believe me, I know this excitement, I LOVE meeting potential fans of my tiny/obscure/quiet fandoms! I like your fic, and the series was intriguing to read about, so hopefully it will be equally fun to watch/read. Yay!

Date: 2012-09-29 10:25 pm (UTC)The light novels are the true canon, but the anime is a pretty faithful adaptation. They even added stories not found in the novels, so they add to the light novel canon. There are some differences and some people stick to the novel canon, but the anime canon is generally what I go with and it's seen as valid.
The light novels are kind of strange, too. There are the "Fumoffu" novels that don't really fall into the rest of the story arcs, but they amused the writer, so he just kind of wrote them in randomly.
I had found the novels online before, but it took some work and now the bookmarks for them don't work. I did find the last novel recently. I needed it to write Overwhelmed!
I sincerely hope that you enjoy the series as much as I did/do. Have fun!
