Full Metal Panic! | Drabble | Unexpected
Jul. 22nd, 2012 10:59 pmTitle: Unexpected
Fandom: Full Metal Panic!
Author:
starzki
Characters/Pairings: Kaname/Sousuke
Words: 300
Rating: K+
Summary: Maybe Sousuke's fall, though painful, could be seen as a lucky break?
Warnings: None
Link: ff.net
NOTES:
I originally conceived this story as an answer to
luxken27's Summer Mini Challenge prompt, "scream." But as I thought it through, Sousuke isn't much of a screamer, even if he was in pain. So it didn't work for that. But,
fanfic_bakeoff is having a free write this month, so I figured I could squeeze this story into 300 words, and this is the result.
I'm happy-ish with it. I tried another kind of first person perspective with Kaname's voice just so that it wouldn't seem like such a passive story. And I liked that I had her wondering in the end if his broken ankle was really a bad thing. It would keep him safer, after all. The perspective doesn't work 100%, but that's fine for this little story.
As for the details, I've broken my ankle (at the end of my fibula, just like Sousuke, here), and it sucks. I didn't realize it was broken at the time and it never quite healed right. I also wanted to give Sousuke a little vulnerability, a little bad luck. He comes through a lot of situations where he should be a lot more hurt than he ends up, so I wanted his luck to break the other way for once. I also wanted it to be not the end of the world that he gets injured. It happens in everyday teenaged life, and it could easily happen to him.
I do wish I had a few hundred more words to flesh this out more to what I wanted, but this will work for the story I wanted to tell. :)
