Last day of the Shipping Meme!
Feb. 5th, 2011 11:13 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
It's been a long month. A lot has happened. It's surprisingly tiring to write an essay about my shipping preferences every day. I also learned that, similar to getting tired of hearing myself talk, I got a little tired of "hearing" myself meme this every day.
As much fun as I've had, I'm glad it's almost over.
One more day. Here goes!
Day 30 - Your favorite ship for ever and ever and ever?
I have lots of favorite ships at different times, but there are three enduring ones that I'll talk about.
1. My first favorite ship is Mulder/Scully from the X-Files.

(Collage by Sunshine47.)
This was the ship where I first learned that being obsessed, *ahem* I mean focused on a ship could be so much fun. I loved exploring their established, working relationship where they grew to respect and trust one another above all else, and translating that into an actual romantic, physical relationship.
I loved Mulder/Scully because it felt like they were always there for me when I was having a tough time. They were also there for me when I was having a terrific time. Thinking about this couple and participating in the fandom has brought me a lot of joy in my life. So they are and will forever be my favorite ship forever, and ever, and ever.
2. Of course, I also will always love Miroku/Sango from Inuyasha.

(Collage by hanyouvixen, center artwork done by Mikaila.)
They were my first real anime ship. I first started watching anime because I was tired of the same old thing on television. I'd seen every kind of cop show, I wasn't that interested in reality shows or sit-coms, and great documentary programs were few and far-between. I noticed anime was often played on some of my channels and knew it would be entertaining, at least because it was so different.
It was Miroku and Sango that showed me the actual depth that can be found in so many good anime programs. Their relationship, their individual characterizations, were so nuanced and intriguing that I could not stop watching or thinking about them. I found great fanfiction with this ship and it helped me further understand why I love this relationship. There is so much there and so much unsaid that we MirSan authors just want to write and write to fill in the blanks (or make new stories and fill in those blanks).
I love Miroku/Sango because they're fantastic and because they helped introduce me into the fandom. In doing so, I've met the most wonderful people I could imagine. They will always have a place in my affections. <3
3. And finally, I love Sousuke/Kaname from Full Metal Panic!

(Collage-maker unknown. Found on this website.)
I love these two. It's weird, but I consider them my first "adult" ship. I wasn't a moody teenager when I first came across these (as I was with Mulder/Scully), and this wasn't an anime often described as a "fairytale" (like Miroku and Sango in Inuyasha). I found this anime all on my own through Comcast's On Demand television and managed to watch it from the first episode until the end of the first season.
I just found an anime I loved and discovered this great little ship within it. They were a bit older than most of the other couples found in anime, which was nice, and they were so fun to watch. Plus, with their sad backstories, I wanted them to have a happy ending. So I've been having great fun in devising ways to make that come about.
They're great characters and I'm finding no end to my love of exploring the ways they could come together. I also feel, because the fandom is so small, that they're kind of my little secret. I'd love for more people to discover them and ship them, too, but until then, I just feel a kind of protective of them. Just thinking about them will always make me smile.
And that's it. My answer for the last day is a bit of a cheat, but it is a three-way tie in that I love all of my ships, Mulder/Scully/ Miroku/Sango, and Sousuke/Kaname, in different ways and I always will.
Yay!
