It's already been kind of a busy day.

I woke up and went to the cardiologist this morning to discuss my first degree AV block that has been causing me some heart palpitations and fluttering that has been a little scary.

The doctor told me that I was the healthiest person he's seen all week (I run 4 miles a day, don't smoke, and have even quit caffeine).  He's unconcerned about my palpitations, it's just something people get from time to time, but because of my pre-existing heart murmur, he wants to do an ultrasound just to check out the structure of my heart just to be on the safe side.

I get to do that on Monday.  Should be interesting.

But, he was quick to tell me it's probably nothing and that I shouldn't worry about it.  So... good.

And for today's meme:

Day 09 - The most believable relationship?

This is an interesting question.  I think what constitutes a "believable relationship" depends on your own experience with witnessing and being in relationships.

Personally, I've been incredibly lucky.  My parents have a wonderful partnership that's going strong after more than 30 years and I've known what love, respect, and stability looks like.  So, to me, those are what "realistic" relationships look like.

However, steady, happy relationships are pretty rare in most media.  Dramatic relationships are more cinematic.  People get caught up in the story of the chase, of first love, of betrayal, and of unrequited adoration.  Heaven knows that I eat that stuff up as much as the next person.  It's exciting and compelling to watch.

Seeing a happy couple stay together and remain pretty happy can be boring, especially if it's written poorly.  Luckily, I was a big fan of Firefly and saw what I consider a well-written and wonderfully believable relationship between Wash and Zoe that was just as compelling and interesting as the budding relationships between Mal and Inara as well as Simon and Kaylee.

They were adorable together.  As an audience, we didn't get to see their relationship develop.  They were a happily married couple right from the start and remained that way throughout the series.  They seem incredibly well-matched.

Zoe is a warrior woman.  She was a soldier who was capable and tough and who is also completely gorgeous to boot.  She has her own interests, background, and her own life.  She would probably be quite content being on her own, without a husband.  It's just that she loves Wash enough to want to be with him forever.  She doesn't need him (or any man, really), just just really digs him so she married him.  Love it.

Wash is a brilliant pilot.  He's funny and cute and really loving towards Zoe.  While he adores his wife (who could honestly probably take him in a fight), he is also able to stand up to her.  Even though she's tougher than he is, they make a great partnership.

I find this couple realistic and believable because they're so honestly into each other.  They both find each other pretty sexy and aren't shy about their affectionate feelings.  They share a sense of humor.  But they also have arguments and fight about real things couples fight about, like having children or issues with jealousy.  However, these arguments don't spell the end of the relationship.  It means they talk it through and find some kind of compromise.

They aren't perfect and they don't do everything perfectly in their relationship.  They make mistakes.  But they learn from those mistakes and use them to make their relationship stronger.

That, to me, is what makes Wash/Zoe the most believable relationship.  I would thank Joss Whedon for creating them, but...

Never mind.  I'll dwell on the happy times with this pairing.
