(But Happy Halloween, anyway!)

[livejournal.com profile] scribefigaro and I finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood last night.  I will say that I am firmly on the Roy/Riza ship.  *twirl*

There is, obviously, so much that I could gush over (example: Rose's fate was decidedly happier this time around).

But I choose to complain instead.  I do, however, complain with great love for this series.

First of all, I have to say that I'm very disappointed in Roy and Riza's hair decisions in the photo epilogue.  Yes, Riza is adorable with short hair, but I just like it longer.  And Roy... just... lost his sexy.  Seriously, dude?

But to my main complaint: WTF General Armstrong?!

Scribe and I discussed it, and it makes a kind of thematic sense for the final battle, but General Olivier Mira Armstrong would not allow a friggin' homunculus tell her that she's too injured to take part in the fight against Father.  The General Armstrong that I know and love would have her sword stuck so deeply in his gut so fast that he wouldn't have the time to put up his shield.  But, nooooooo.  The writers decide (as they so often do with strong female characters) that she had to show some vulnerability.  But the point of Gen. Armstrong is that she will always deny that vulnerability.  It's why she's so awesome.

Yeah, I'm completely in love with Gen. Armstrong.  She was who I wanted to be when I grew up.

I'll probably have more to say as I have more time to reflect on the series.

*Like, on an academic side note, the sexual assault implications of Roy Mustang being forced to perform a human transmutation against his will were disturbing, but bear thinking about.
