Reading, reading, reading.
Jul. 14th, 2009 10:36 amIn the past few weeks, I've bought quite a few books. Some of them were good (I'm Down); some of them were not-so-good (The Nanny Diaries). One of them was a classic.
This is weird to admit, but before this weekend, I'd never read anything by Jane Austen. I've seen all the movies, Emma (and Clueless), Mansfield Park, heck, even Becoming Jane and The Jane Austen Book Club. But I'd never actually read a word written by Austen.
So I finally picked up Pride and Prejudice. Like I said before, I had seen all of the movies based on the book (to name a few, the recentest Pride and Prejudice, Bride and Prejudice, the A&E miniseries Pride and Prejudice, and Bridget Jones' Diary). I knew the plot inside and out and just figured I really didn't ever need to read the actual book.
I'm really glad I did. It was quite engrossing. I stayed up until 2AM on Saturday night because I wanted to see what Ms. Austen would write about Lydia's elopement (escandolo!). It was really, really good. I enjoyed the book muchly.
And now, I feel I can read the book I originally wanted to read: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. :D
