starzkiI woke up this morning just infuriated at my students. I pass around an attendance sheet for students to sign so that I can credit students who make the effort and show up for class. On Monday, I had the students do group work, too. I noticed that one group, who I'm 99% sure had only three students in it, turned in a paper with four names signed to it. So I went through and looked at the attendance sheets and notice that two names consistently have the same handwriting.
So someone is covering for a friend that isn't there, letting them get full attendance and group work credit when they don't even show up. I was so mad that I'm sure smoke was coming out of my ears. I'm very nice. I'm probably too nice. And now they're taking advantage of me.
So I read my class the riot act this morning. Then I laid the smack down with a pop quiz. I told them it was in their best interest not to do things that would make me mad. They won't like me when I'm angry.
So that's how my day started out. Then, I was sitting ever-so-innocently in my office when I hear a hushed, angry conversation going on with three of my professors in the next office over. So, naturally, I eavesdropped. I now have the dish on the juiciest gossip in the department. *contented sigh*
While the gossip is too specific to the particular workings of our department to go into in great detail here, suffice to say that Donna (my nemesis) might be brought down a few pegs in the next couple of weeks/months. Yay!
My friend also let me in on other gossip involving some of my other professors that doesn't affect my life in the least, but that I'm glad I know.
And faculty meeting this afternoon. Another good place to score awesome gossip.
Oh, and in other things that have delighted me today, as I was leaving the class I just taught, getting my things together, two girls who came in early for the class after mine told me I looked like Kristen Davis, (aka Charlotte from "Sex and the City"). Nice!
