Grammar? Really?
Sep. 4th, 2006 12:20 pmI've thrown my fit over at IYFG.
I feel slightly ashamed.
But bad grammar is not a stylistic choice! Yes, some authors buck conventional grammar rules, but it's not because they're lazy or ignorant. They're usually making a confrontational statement through their writing within their respective genres or they are setting a particular mood or theme or characterization within the story. They then say, "Yes, it's wrong. It's wrong on purpose." They do not say it is correct.
It may be hypocritical that I insist upon reading grammatically correct fanfic when my own grammar is less than perfect. But I don't defend my bad grammar. I note it as bad and will hopefully learn and do better in the future.
I think I may quit IYFG. It's no longer representing only good fanfic and becoming more of a headache than anything.
I really shouldn't let this bother me as much as it is, but it's a holiday and I don't want to do any of the actual work that is waiting for me. So I rant to strangers.
