I see the attraction to yes-men
Jul. 20th, 2006 07:57 pmLast day of summer classes. YAY!
It was a good class today. Everyone did their presentations, were engaged in the class, and were generally respectful of each other. They even left the class with smiles on their faces. That's a first.
I went in to collect the posterboards and a couple of students had stayed behind to tell me thanks for teaching the class. I got a "You're such a good teacher," and "You did really well with us."
I was touched. Moved nearly to tears. Then I remembered that I had promised the class that I would be curving the grades this weekend and I think they were just kissing my ass, hoping for a more forgiving curve. I have to admit, I liked it. Surrounding oneself to sycophants is an attractive prospect. It sure does help the self-esteem.
But classes are over and I think that I'm more excited about it than anyone in the class.
