Funny, I've had the complete opposite experience, LOL!! I avoid porny fanfic unless it's by an author I know & trust because I've read way too much ridiculous stuff stumbling around in the field :P

I tend to read witty romance novels, and said authors tend to stay away from the purple prose. Of course, I have read some of the old classics (Victoria Holt, anyone? Beatrice Small for the true lolz) and I share your aversion to "manhood" - tho I raise you one better in "manroot."
