NOTES:
I kind of cheated with this prompt in that the chapter is almost the exact opposite of "sultry." Oh well. Being the exact opposite was as close as I could get to completing the prompt! Yet, I still worked it in.
This was the original beginning that I had in mind. I love the image of Sousuke and Kaname smooching and stumbling all over her apartment as they search for a soft place to land. And where else but her bed?! I also loved the image of Sousuke being delighted and surprised every time he opened his eyes after kissing Kamame to see that she's still there. Those were the two main images that drove this chapter and, indeed, the conception of this fic.
I wanted to keep it innocent for this chapter. Yes, they could have genuinely jumped right into one another's pants, but I'm looking for a slightly slower build. For this fic, anyway. I have another "first time" fic that I've flirted with that's the exact opposite--kind of angsty and "sex is srs bsns" kind of vibe. I probably won't end up writing that one, but I get it.
Not what I wanted for this fic... yet.
I'll admit that this isn't a perfect chapter. I had major problems with the dialogue.
scribefigaro was a help with that. Somewhat. He took out my joke, but it was a kind of tired premise anyway. This fits better with their personalities.
There was also the issue of how to slow things down. There is a definite mood and tempo change that needed to occur and having it happen just organically seemed a little too... jarring is the wrong word. It was just off. So I put in the phone call from her father. It's mentioned at the end of the novel that she puts in a call to her dad and is willing to bridge the gap between them. I thought it wouldn't be out of place for him to respond to that. I do, however, dislike that it's almost that the phone call interrupts them if only because I'm going to have that happen a little later in the story. But that's already written, so I guess it's now a theme.
Oh well.
I'm pretty happy with this chapter. It's nice to have some happiness before all the (spoiler alert!) angst starts. :D
