Those who read my FMP blatherings know that I've been considering writing this story for a long while now. Ever since I read the end of the series in the light novel, I've had many images in my head for what happens after. I've read a great many fics that tackle the subject, and they have all been great in their own ways.
However, they've also been pretty tame. Not that I'm going to have them swinging from the rafters, but we have two very attractive young people who are still technically teenagers (and still full of hormones) who have been searching, in their own ways, for one another for over a year. They've finally reunited. I'm thinking the sexy times are not too far behind.
But first things first. This story. While I had the images, the feelings of elation, love, and lust, I actually wanted to make it more than just a PWP. Therefore, I did spend days trying to figure out how to make the writing at least a little compelling. I also had a problem of perspective. Who's story would I be telling more? His or hers? Should I give the story a voice? All of these issues would have to be resolved before I could really even start.
I decided to cheat a little. The story will be 3rd person omniscient, but each chapter will follow either Kaname or Sousuke in their feelings a little bit more closely. I even outlined the dang fic so that I could keep it consistent for what is going on and what stories I wanted to tell. I don't even really do this for my good (non-porny) fics. I even started the fic earlier in the "plot" than I intended to help keep the flow of perspective steady.
Also, I decided that many smaller chapters would be better. It will keep the perspectives fresh. However, I don't think that future chapters will be as small as this first chapter.
Next, I decided that the first chapter would focus just on how joyful that Kaname is in the hours after she is reunited with Sousuke. She finally has what she wants. She's home and the man she loves wants desperately to be with her forever. *swoon*
This helped lead me to what I actually wanted to name the fic. I originally had thought that I would name the story "Finally." Kind of a take on finale, but also referencing that they're finally getting together. The problem with that title is that whenever I though about it, the song "Finally" by Ce Ce Peniston would get stuck in my head for hours. It's an okay song, but it started driving me crazy. So "Finally" was out.
So what to call the fic? As I was fleshing out the first chapter, I just kept thinking, "Kaname is overwhelmed with happiness." And I thought that the whole fic is really a character exploration of first love, which is always overwhelming. The next chapter will have Sousuke overwhelmed with another kind of emotion, and the next will feature Kaname again, and so on. A theme! And it will help me name the chapters (trust me, I suck at naming things). Bonus!
So, yeah. I think these notes are actually longer than the chapter I posted. I still have a lot more to write (obviously) and a lot of decisions to make in regards to simply posting the fic, but I'm happy with this for now.
