Notes:
This is one of my favorite moments from the anime. Gauron has placed a bomb in an airplane full of high schoolers on vacation. He plans to explode the plane in order to disguise that he's kidnapped Kaname. Sousuke is given very specific orders to stay and help save the people on the plane rather than risk going after Kaname. Sousuke disobeys his orders and looks shocked as hell that he's doing so.
Kaname is a force to be reckoned with and Sousuke genuinely admires her. It's not romance yet, but he likes her. He's also had the distinction of rescuing another Whispered girl who was pretty much a walking zombie once they got to her.
In his moments of indecision about what to do, he keeps thinking of how full of life Kaname is and how utterly void the other Whispered girl was. And once he started wondering what Gauron would do with Kaname Sousuke is running to her rescue.
It's a brief moment in the anime, but it's the first time that Sousuke has even considered disobeying a direct order (the "pro among pros" reference is his commander stating that there's no way that Sousuke would abandon the hostages) and he's doing it for Kaname.
