Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for from the beginning?
I've mentioned it before, so thanks, f-list, for bearing with me.
A pairing I've rooted for from the beginning is Mulder/Scully from X-Files.
(I totally had this poster on my wall for years.)
When I say that I've rooted for this couple from the beginning, it's a bit complicated. The first episode had these two together, but at odds. She thought he was weird. He thought she was a spy. And then she found bumps on her lower back and freaked out (they had been signs of abduction). So she stripped down to her underwear for him to check them out (by candlelight even), but they were only mosquito bites. I was 14 and intrigued by these developments in the relationship. She seemed to have his back and he was thrilled by her challenging him.
But I wasn't quite won over into full shipperhood until episode 5, The Jersey Devil.
I even remember the exact point I began shipping.
This was a standard Monster of the Week episode and Mulder ran around New Jersey looking for a feral human while Scully debated whether she wanted to throw herself into her work or attempt to have a life. She tried the whole life thing. She even went on a boring date. But she enjoyed her time more with Mulder and working on their cases together and was actually glad when she got called away from that date. She and Mulder go on to solve the mystery.
At the end of the episode, when Scully's date asked her out again, she politely declined. Then, she and Mulder left the room together.
This was the moment I became a shipper. I liked the idea of Scully dating. And if she wasn't going to date boring, though cute guys, HEY! MULDER'S CUTE AND HE TOTALLY ISN'T BORING! THEY SHOULD DATE! AND KISS! AND HAVE SEXYTIEMZ! AND HAVE BABIES! OMG! OTP4LIFE!
And from this moment on, I lost my bloomin' mind when it came to this show.
