You know, there should be an expiration date (say: graduation) for having those nightmares about school.  I had another one of those dreams last night.  I had signed up for advanced algebra, but totally forgot about it until the end of the semester when I got my report card that contained all A's and a big, fat F.

In the dream, I was all, "Why am I still going to school?  Didn't I graduate?"  But I was still majorly bummed about the F.

:(

So that wasn't fun.

Time to meme!

Day 14 - What is your favorite book pairing?

This question was surprisingly hard for me.  I read a lot.  A lot, a lot.  But I've never really been all that into novels that dealt with relationships or romance to the degree I would call myself a shipper.  At least, not a lot lately.  I guess hardcore shipping of anime and television doesn't leave a lot left for me to ship when I'm reading.  It also doesn't help that the books I tend to read are about serial killers or are murder mysteries.  *shrug*

So my answer to this question is not a pairing that I am deeply emotionally invested in, nor would I consider fanfiction, but the are my current favorite book pairing.

My favorite book pairing is Elizabeth Bennett/Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice.

(Mr. Darcy can be a total dick sometimes.)

I have a confession.  While I've seen the P&P miniseries, the old movie, the recent movie, and Bridget Jones' Diary, I hadn't, until a year and a half ago, actually read the book.  Or any Jane Austen.  *shame*

I had seen the book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was out and really, really wanted to read that.  So I bought both books.  I read the straight one first, then the zombie book and was thoroughly entertained by both.

I loved the way Austen constructed the careful dance between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.  They full-on loathe each other at the beginning of the novel.  It's my understanding that Austen wrote it in response to the romantic books of the time where "true love" was evidenced by love-at-first-sight.

Austen knew that love-at-first-sight is not really the way to know if someone would be a good life partner, so she showed a relationship that was built to be steady because it weathered misunderstandings, hurt feelings, dashed expectations, and even jackassery.  Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy fell in love despite all odds being against them, despite not wanting to fall in love with one another.  At the end of the book, the reader knows that their relationship was rock-solid because they had to fight for it and weren't about to let it go.

It was a truly great book.  The romantic in me rooted for those two crazy kids to get together and was completely satisfied with the end.

I also really liked Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

"The creatures were crawling on their hands and knees, biting into ripe heads of cauliflower, which they had mistaken for stray brains."

It was exactly like Pride and Prejudice, only with zombies and ninja.  Still a great love story, though.
