So, I'm pretty settled here at the parents' house. I've been doing a lot of reading and exercising since I got here. Just finished the Sandman series by Gaiman. Reports of its brilliance, I can tell you first hand, were completely right. It was gorgeous, touching, and so well-written you would have thought that most of the story wasn't done in dialogue. Amazing.

Also, trying to shed my dissertation/injury weight. I've picked up running and swimming with the occasional foray to the gym to lift weights. Not dieting, though. Not on purpose anyway. My parents, I've found, don't have bags of chocolate just lying around like I do when I live on my own. It was quite a shock for me my first night here. My brother, the chef-in-training, is doing his Deserts class and took pity on me and brought me home chocolate truffles. SO GOOD!

I like it here, but I have to say that there are too many animals. My mom has 2 dogs. I have two dogs. My sister, who is abroad on vacation for the next month, has a dog and a cat that are staying here. It's insane. I love dogs, but two is pushing it for my sanity. Five dogs, who all think they are guard dogs and set each other into barking fits that just go on and on, are way too much. It's nice when they're all sleeping.

Plus, it's coming in on what my mother calls "scorpion season." I already killed one. It was just a little guy, but I didn't want to give him the opportunity to get bigger and scarier. I hate scorpions. *shudder*
