Crazy weather, geckos, and meme
I woke up to snow this morning. SNOW!
We get snow maybe once every 10 years here and it rarely sticks, but we got almost a half an inch last night! Crazy!
Also, I'd like a moment of silence for The Dude. There has been a gecko that has shared this room I have my computer in. He usually hangs out on the window sill or on some of the blinds. He was a cool little dude that found his way into the room months ago.
Sadly, it seems he passed away sometime last night. I knew his time was probably near because he was just kind of hanging out on the floor and not adventuring around the room as he normally did. Poor little guy. :(
And on that note, I'm going for today's meme question that anyone who knows me would probably guess:
Day 29 - What ship had the best proposal?
Of my main ships, only one of them has actually had a proposal. I suppose that this fact makes it, by default, the best proposal. But I still think it was pretty great.
My ship with the best proposal is, of course, when Miroku proposed living together with Sango after they defeat Naraku and asks her officially to bear his children in Inuyasha.
I'll be the first to admit that this wasn't a "perfect" proposal. But I think it shows the growth and insecurities of both Miroku and Sango and keeps them within character.
After being hurt by Miroku, Sango was captured and possessed by a demon. She fights Miroku and quite nearly kills him, but he manages to save her. I think that the prospect of losing Sango because of his bad behavior, as well as seeing her in action and realizing that she is in every way his equal, is what prompted the proposal.
There has been much made of Miroku's statement of "I don't see you as a woman." I'll be the first to admit that when he said that, my heart broke a bit for Sango. But he went on to describe her as a companion, a fellow fighter in their battle with Naraku. Only then does he propose that they end up together.
Though many, including Sango at first, see this way of proposing as a statement against Sango's femininity, I don't think that's the case. I think the point Miroku was trying to make (and feel free to disagree with me on this), is that he doesn't see Sango as just another woman. She's special to him because she will fight with him and for him. He knows that, because she's hurt when he turns is amorous attentions elsewhere, she cares for him too. Realizing this, Miroku knows he should make his feelings official and ask her to spend her life with him.
Sango, though delighted, has also been recently burned by him. So, still full of insecurities, she accepts, but immediately questions his honor.
Miroku, I believe, just thought he made the grand gesture of letting Sango know that he put her above all other women. And then she questions exactly that sentiment in the next breath. Miroku is a bit frustrated at this reaction because he thought he had been clear. Sango, then takes his lack of response as evidence that he would consider straying again and becomes angry.
Yet, in the end, they've made up and overlook the water together, all snuggles. I take that to mean that they've worked to understand the true intent by each other's words and actions: That Miroku meant his proposal to mean that, of course he is done with other women because Sango is more than just another woman to him. And that Sango, so recently hurt by Miroku wasn't intending to question his loyalty, but was trying to affirm what she hoped she was hearing.
I love this proposal because it wasn't perfect. It showed both Miroku's and Sango's vulnerabilities, but still expressed their love for one another. They're still working their issues out, but it seems that they're well on their way to a happy, committed relationship.
