I've been saying I've been missing yoga for some time now.  Well, a couple of days ago, my mom finally said, "Why not just do my yoga DVD?"  I was worried that it had her hot yoga stuff on it (I prefer Hatha), but no, it's just a generic yoga DVD with Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced lessons.

I look and see that the beginner is similar to Hatha, so I was excited to try it.

Holy friggin' cow!  The Beginner setting nearly did me in.  I used to be okay at yoga, but that was 3 years ago.  I've lost any flexibility I had, and then some.  Today, I can barely lift my arm to scratch my head.  And let me say it again, this was the BEGINNER level.

But this is good.  I'm excited to keep at it.  I'll just have to wait a couple more days before I can move again.  :P

Day 16 - What is the absolute worst pairing?

I'm going to go general with this one and keep my examples to the Inuyasha fandom, but I see it all over the place.

I really can't stand any incest pairings.



It's a personal squick.  I have siblings and the thought of pairing siblings romantically is just a big, honking, NO in my book.

I'm not saying it can't be done successfully or well.  From what I hear, there are some great stories out there that feature sibling pairings, like Sango and Kohaku.  I'm glad that there are great stories about them.  But I'm not going to read them.  Nope, nope, nope.



I also hear there are some incest stories between Inuyasha and Sessoumaru.  I mean, I kind of get it in that they're both pretty and the idea of two prettyboys making out is intriguing, but really?  I'm not saying it can't be done, but there are issues that would stump even the most talented of writers.  These guys hate each other.  They're both dudes.  And they're siblings.  Seriously, I think it could really be made to work if you took out any one of those issues, but all three?  I just can't see it happening without destroying characterization.

And, I think, that's the main issue for me.  Fanfiction has its reality based in canon.  If the canon has two characters written as siblings, most of the time, the authors characterize them as acting towards the other as siblings would.  I would be really hard to convince me that I've completely missed all of the erotic undertones between siblings when it seems to me that they weren't there in the first place.  Therefore, I often see incest pairings as just really bad characterizations.

Let me say this again, though.  I'm not saying that there haven't been some great Sango/Kohaku or Inuyasha/Sessoumaru stories written.  I'm saying that the average fanfiction writer is probably not talented enough to make the pairings work without destroying characterization.  However, even for the extraordinarily talented fanfiction writer who can and does make it work, I'm still not going to read the story because it's too squicky for me.

In other words, I'm dubious that it's done well most of the time and for the times that it is, I still don't want to read it based on my personal, biased predilections. 

Last attempt at clarity: I don't think all incest writers are bad writers.  I'm sure some are great.  I'm just not going to read them.
